Play of the Day: 'Trump' and 'Clinton' Debate on SNL
The late-night staple marks its season premier with a new Trump… And lots of material to parody.
Saturday Night Live began its 42nd season over the weekend and covered the home stretch of the 2016 presidential race. On Weekend Update, Colin Jost compared the election to the Twitter joke about the iPhone/Galaxy Twitter conversation, while Michael Che -- and The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon -- joked about the debate sounding more like a couple divorcing than democracy in action.
SNL opened its season premiere with a sketch lampooning last week's presidential debate with Alec Baldwin playing Donald Trump. The sketch hit many of the major themes, including Trump's energy waning during the course of the event, Trump taking Hillary Clinton's bait about Alicia Machado and even Trump's ongoing feud with Rosie O'Donnell. Baldwin even did a whole run as Trump on the real estate mogul's most distinctive physical features as he mocked Trump's debate answer about "temperament."
