Play of the Day: Donald Trump's Twitter Beef With a Broadway Play
The president-elect is upset with the cast of the most popular show in America.
Over the weekend, Donald Trump settled a lawsuit involving Trump University, a for-profit education project, for $25 million. The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked that Trump's next step is to call up the Treasury Department and ask for a withdrawal.
While some were suggesting Trump's behavior would pivot after the election, president-elect showed this would not happen when he got into a Twitter fight with the cast of Broadway play Hamilton over the weekend. After Mike Pence's attendance at a performance prompted boos and a written statement read by the cast, Trump tweeted that the cast should apologize and called the show "overrated." Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that Abraham Lincoln is the only president allowed to complain about the theater, while Viceland's Desus Nice joked that Trump is "doing what every white person that sees Hamilton does: just tweet about it for days." Jimmy Kimmel asked the operative question about the feud, though, in saying "How is it possible that Donald Trump can get along with Putin and but not Hamilton?"
