Play of the Day: The Best TV of 2016 Was Definitely the Trump Campaign
Twists, turns, a surprise ending… The campaign had everything.
NBC News reported this week that Vladimir Putin was personally behind the reported Russian interference in the 2016 election. Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about the election shenanigans behind Putin's election by referencing Matryoshka dolls, while Jimmy Kimmel joked about the friendship between president-elect Donald Trump and Putin.
This week, Variety named the coverage of Trump's 2016 campaign as the "worst of TV" this year, saying the president-elect's campaign was "commercial, nonsensical, and image-obsessed." Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that Trump's campaign was great TV, as it had lavish sets, a lot of wacky neighbors, some romance and even a cliffhanger.
