Play of the Day: The Nixon Library Wants You to Know that Trump is Not Nixonian
Late-night examines more fallout from the president's high-profile firing of the FBI chief.
President Donald Trump's firing of former FBI Director James Comey continues to be the biggest topic on late-night TV. Russian President Vladimir Putin -- decked out in full hockey pads on his way from the dressing room to the ice -- told CBS News that he had nothing to do with the Comey firing, prompting Conan O'Brien to joke about the Russian government's reputation for poisoning Putin's enemies. Full Frontal's Samantha Bee joked about Putin saying that Trump "is acting in accordance with his competence," noting that Trump's competence may be the problem.
In the wake of the Comey firing, many compared Trump to Richard Nixon, but the Richard Nixon Presidential Library Twitter account distanced itself from Trump by tweeting "FUN FACT: President Nixon never fired the Director of the FBI #FBIDirector #notNixonian" just after the Comey news broke. Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that the Nixon Library is short on fun facts, while Late Night's Seth Meyers joked "You know it's bad when even the Nixon Library thinks you're bad for its brand." Jimmy Kimmel even joked that Trump's presidential tendencies shouldn't be Nixonian. Kimmel also had a list of potential new heads of the FBI. Check it out at 4:00.
