The president spoke to the New York Times and he said some illuminating things.
Thursday marked the six-month since President Donald Trump was inaugurated. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that Melania Trump has been counting the days and Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about the stress of the first six months.
Trump's extensive interview with the New York Times was prime fodder for late-night shows on Thursday. The Daily Show's Trevor Noah joked about Trump's comments about his handshakes with French President Emmanuelle Macron, with Noah joking that Macron was only holding Trump's hands to "keep them off his wife." Colbert joked about Trump saying that Japanese First Lady Akie Abe doesn't speak English (despite reports to the contrary) by joking that Abe said "No hablo inglés, señor" to Trump. Noah and Meyers also joked about Trump's comments about Attorney General Jeff Sessions, with Meyers joking about dogs and Noah wondering what, exactly, Trump thinks the role of the Cabinet is. Does Trump, Noah wondered, think the role of the Energy Department to charge his iPhone?
