Play of the Day: What Happened at Donald Trump Jr.'s Meeting With a Russian Attorney?
Russian meetings are nothing new to members of the Trump family.
President Donald Trump was in Germany last week for the 2017 G20 Hamburg summit and misidentified Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as Indonesian President Joko Widodo in a social media post. Late Show's Stephen colbert joked about the gaffe, saying that Trump's previous international diplomacy experience was with the Miss Universe pageant and he needs the other world leaders to "Wear their damned sashes."
News broke over the weekend that the president's son took a meeting in 2016 with Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer, fanning flames of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Colbert joked that the news isn't a smoking gun, but rather "a gun meeting with a Russian bullet about their mutual desire to smoke." In joking about Donald Trump Jr.'s sketchy explanation of the meeting, Jimmy Kimmel joked that the excuse was like telling a judge "I tried to rob the bank, but I forgot they weren't open on Sunday" while The Daily Show's Trevor Noah noted that Trump "tried to collude, but instead got Russian catfished."
