Play of the Day: The President Wants to Protect the 'Local Milk People'
Leaked transcripts of Donald Trump's calls with the heads of Mexico and Australia show a different side of the president.
President Donald Trump is scheduled Friday to leave for a 17-day vacation at his golf resort in New Jersey, according to reports. Jimmy Kimmel tied the news to a joke about Trump's "covfefe" tweet, while Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that 17 days is more time than New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has spent in the state.
The Washington Post published leaked transcripts of the calls Trump made during his first week in office to Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto and the prime minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull. In the call to Peña Nieto, Trump called New Hampshire a "drug-infested den," prompting Meyers to joke that New Englanders would prefer to call it a "drug-infested inn." In his call to Turnbull, Trump seemed to misspeak when he said that refugees aren't going to come to the U.S. to "be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people.” The phrase "local milk people" caused The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that Trump calls cows "spotty milk horses" and Colbert gave Trump's phrases for various working-class jobs.
