Play of the Day: The President's Golf Trophy Gift to Puerto Rico
Donald Trump's reaction to Hurricane Maria continues to rankle many.
President Donald Trump hosted Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha at the White House on Monday. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked about the news, making a pun about Trump's predilection toward long neckties.
Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, criticized the federal government's response to Hurricane Maria's devastation of Puerto Rico this past weekend, prompting Acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke to tout the "good news story," citing the "limited number of deaths." The Opposition's Jordan Klepper joked about the quote, saying "it's a good news story. Like The Bearenstein Bears and the Limited Number of Deaths." On Sunday, Trump dedicated the Presidents Cup golf trophy to the victims of Hurricane Maria, prompting widespread criticism, including Viceand's Desus and Mero joking "why don't you airlift that trophy and see if people can eat it?" The Daily Show's Trevor Noah noted that a golf trophy is very low on the list of things Puerto Ricans need, between a VHS copy of Spiderman 3 and another hurricane.
