Play of the Day: What Exactly Was Rob Porter's Job?
The fired staffer was important, but what did he do at the White House?
The United States mixed doubles curling team beat Russia 9-3 to begin the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang this week. The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about the two nations' relationship, saying "Putin can rig an election, but not a curling event."
White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter resigned this week after allegations of domestic violence -- photos of his bruised ex-wives -- surfaced. Many questioned when Chief of Staff John Kelly knew about the allegations and questioned Kelly saying "I can't say enough good things about" Porter, prompting Late Show's Stephen Colbert to say that Kelly said "too many" good things about Porter. After some questioned Porter's title, the Daily Show's Trevor Noah showed a clip of CBS correspondent Julianna Goldman saying the job entails overseeing "every piece of paper that lands on the president's desk" and wondered if that mattered. Trump famously says he doesn't have time to read, so Noah compared Porter's previous gig to Kevin Spacey's agent right now, joking that Spacey's representation said "Yep. Still no calls."
