Play of the Day: The President Explains The Words 'Nationalist' And 'Globalist'
At a rally in Texas, Donald Trump gave a short talk on linguistics.
Senator Ted Cruz is running for reelection and called on his one-time rival President Donald Trump to campaign for him on Monday in Houston. Trump spoke for more than an hour, prompting Late Night's Seth Meyers to joke that it was the first time a crowd ever screamed "bring out Ted Cruz!"
At the rally, Trump spent some time redefining two words with connections to white power movements. In saying that he's a "nationalist," Trump noted that loving one's country shouldn't be "old-fashioned," prompting Late Show's Stephen Colbert to say that calling oneself a nationalist without saying "white nationalist" is like saying you're a part of a Klux Klan, but not specifying which one. Trump also derided the term "globalist," with its connections to anti-semitism, on its face and reiterated his "America First" policies, prompting Colbert to joke that Trump will only care about global warming when it's renamed "America warming."
