Play of the Day: Wilbur Ross Has Some Questions and Suggestions for Furloughed Feds
The Commerce chief appeared on CNBC to talk about the shutdown.
President Donald Trump will not be delivering the State of the Union Address on Tuesday after House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi said she would not allow a joint session of Congress during the shutdown. The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about the news, saying Trump was so sad that he said "I feel just like the government… shut down."
There are still no signs of progress for the over 800,000 public servants going unpaid during the shutdown, but Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross spoke to CNBC on Thursday and said he "didn't understand" and suggested that they go into more debt. Jimmy Kimmel invoked Rodney King by saying that Ross's comments were akin to "can't we all just get a loan," while Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about Ross's age and referenced a ha'penny and a "hamburger sandwich" for a nickel. When Pelosi said Ross's comments were akin to " the 'let them eat cake' kind of attitude, or 'call your father for money,'" Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that those are the same attitude for Trump.
