Play of the Day: A National Emergency Fight Is Coming
Trump is going to try and bypass Congress to get his wall and late-night hosts are here to joke about it.
President Donald Trump touted construction on his border wall project this week and said during a speech that people would "have to be in extremely good shape to get over this one" and that the wall will be easier to climb that Mount Everest. Late Late Show's James Corden joked about the news, sarcastically saying Trump really "knows extreme sports" and adding "he was out of breath just saying 'Mount Everest.'"
Trump indicated that he will declare a national emergency to bypass Congressional funding for the wall, perhaps prompting a lengthy court fight. Corden joked that he always thought "Trump" and "bypass" would be something we'd be talking about, but not in this way. The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about the news, saying that "National Emergency" is Trump's Secret Service code name, while Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that Trump would be listening emergencies in this order: Hurricanes, wildfires, "my administration."
