Play of the Day: The President's Second State of the Union Gave America Choices
"We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction."
With no news coming out of the talks to avert another shutdown, President Donald Trump tweeted that he would build "a Human Wall if necessary" on Tuesday. Late Late Show's James Corden joked about the tweet, saying it would be worse than jury duty to get called to be part of the human wall.
Trump delivered the State of the Union address on Tuesday night and late-night shows were live to joke about it. The president gave the speech in front of the most diverse Congress ever, prompting The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that Trump would say "the caravan is coming from inside the House!" The speech went for 83 minutes, so Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that the teleprompter had a bouncing hamburger to keep Trump paying attention to it. In the speech, Trump said "We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction," which prompted Colbert to go on a riff of choices including "soup or salad" and "paper or plastic."
