Play of the Day: The President Has Trouble With Some Names
Donald Trump has a history of malapropisms.
President Donald Trump's Office of Management and Budget released its FY2020 budget on Monday and Democrats in Congress said the plan is "divorced from reality." Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about the quote, asking if there is "anything he won't divorce?"
After the president was mocked last week for misspeaking when thanking Apple CEO Tim Cook, Trump tried two different excuses over the last four days as to what happened. First, he told Republican donors that he said "Cook" very softly and was being unfairly mocked. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked about Trump's explanation, saying that "Tim Cook Apple" doesn't make much more sense, but rather sounds like Tarzan describing someone making a pie. Trump then tweeted on Monday that he "referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. " Late Late Show's James Corden joked that Trump "just used 55 [words] to explain why he didn't say 'Cook,'" while Jimmy Kimmel joked that Trump's thin skin might be because of his self-tanner. The Tonight Show showed a montage of Trump messing up people's names, including calling Rep. Kevin McCarthy "Steve" and mispronouncing Leah Vukmir's name at a rally.
