Play of the Day: Highlights From Another Trump Campaign Rally
The president said he had 'nothing to do' and basked in, then denounced a new chant.
A heat wave has hit much of the United States this week, with temperatures near 100° in major cities like Washington and New York. As with most heat waves, officials have suggested that people check in on their elderly loved ones, prompting The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that "Bernie Sanders' phone has been ringing off the hook."
President Donald Trump held a rally in North Carolina this week in which he began the night by saying "We can have a lot fo fun tonight. I have nothing to do," prompting Jimmy Kimmel to joke that "that might be the first factual statement he's made since becoming president." At one point, the crowd chanted "Send her back" about Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Somali refugee member of Congress who is also a frequent critic of the president. Trump seemed to bask in the chant, holding for more than 10 seconds but told reporters on Thursday that he "was not happy with it," prompting late-night hosts to question his motives, considering his tweets about Omar earlier in the week. The Daily Show's Trevor Noah compared him to a DJ telling a crowd to "make some noise" while quickly backtracking because "we've got neighbors."
