Play of the Day: Wrapping Up The Detroit Debates
Joe Biden is still the frontrunner for the 2020 Democrats.
In anticipation of a rally in Ohio, President Donald Trump tweeted "BIG RALLY tonight in Cincinnati, Ohio. See you there! P.S. Our Country is doing GREAT!" on Thursday. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked "that's a weird thing to put in a 'P.S.'" and that it's like getting text from a spouse that says "Working late tonight. P.S. Definitely not cheating on you."
Twenty Democrats debated over two nights this week in Detroit. According to the New York Times, only seven current candidates will qualify for the next debate, prompting Meyers to joke that the spacey Marianne Williamson has "qualified for the Galactic Council." A Reuters report said that Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren are "are two high-speed trains on a collision course," prompting Late Show's Stephen Colbert to joke that Warren is in trouble because trains are Biden's "natural habitat." Biden's age also came in for some jokes, as The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about Biden telling Kamala Harris "go easy on me, kid," saying that you know you're old when "you call a 54-year-old a 'kid,'" while Colbert joked that while Tulsi Gabbard may have been the most-searched candidate this week on Google, Biden "was the most-searched on rotary phones.""
