Play of the Day: The President's Conversation With Ukraine
The White House released a summary of Donald Trump talking to Volodymyr Zelensky.
After pressure was mounting due to an impeachment inquiry beginning after a whistleblower complaint, the White House on Wednesday released a summary of call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The call summary seems to suggest Trump asked Zelensky to investigate a Trump political rival's family, prompting Conan O'Brien to joke "for the history buffs" that "no one's asked a foreign government to interfere in a U.S. election since way back in 2016."
After the release of the call summary, the White House put together a list of talking points for Republicans, but accidentally sent it out to Congressional Democrats via email and then tried to recall the email. Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about the news, saying the Democrats responded to the recall request with "lol, sorry, no backsies" and included a peach emoji, while Late Night's Seth Meyers joked that Gmail's new autoreply feature said "lock her up" as a response. Jimmy Kimmel noted that the talking points suggested that Republicans say the whole situation is the fault of the famed "Deep State" and joked that the GOP might next say "chupacabras forced the president to do this."
