Open Season for Dental and Vision Benefits Is Extended Until Wednesday

Federal workers will have two extra days to enroll in the program or make changes to their insurance plans.

The Office of Personnel Management has extended the open season for making changes to dental and vision insurance benefits by two days.

Federal workers now have until midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 14, to enroll in, change or cancel their dental and vision benefits, OPM announced. The original cutoff was Monday at midnight, but the extension was granted due to technical issues with the enrollment website, Benefeds.com.

Those who wish to change their Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance plans can do so through the program’s call center, at 877-888-3337. Open season has not been extended for health benefits or flexible spending accounts.

More than 1.7 million federal employees participate in the federal dental benefit, while 1.2 million enroll in vision plans. Premiums for the dental benefit will increase 1.9 percent in 2017, and those for the vision plan, 6.3 percent. For more information on the premium changes for specific plans, click here.
