Government Technology Leadership Awards

Sponsored by Government Executive

We think you would agree that too little recognition and praise is given to successful government initiatives. We are working to correct that problem and hope that you might help.

As you know, there are many successes to celebrate. Many of them lie below the level of public consciousness, but are nonetheless vital to the efficient functioning of important public enterprises. And many involve the creative use of modern computer and telecommunications technology to keep up with rising workloads and satisfy rising customer expectations.

For the last eight years, the Government Technology Leadership Awards(GTLA) program has celebrated such successes. By honoring meritorious projects and the teams responsible for them, the awards have sought to encourage innovation. More than 160 teams have been recognized. Last year, a panel of federal experts reviewed more than 200 nominations and chose 20 winners, who were honored at a special reception in Washington. The winning projects were described in the December issue of Government Executive, and were posted on our web site for the benefit of others who might learn from these examples of excellence. A description of last year's winners can be found at www.govexec.com/tech/award.

The awards salute projects, large and small, that have directly aided the missions of their organizations by boosting efficiency and effectiveness, lowering costs, and/or improving service to the public through original uses of technology.

This year's GTLA winners will be decided in late September, honored during the Government Technology Leadership Institute Conference and featured in the December issue of Government Executive Magazine.
