Energy management systems to go online
The Energy Department on Thursday announced that it would adopt a new technology system designed to push the department's paper-based management into online programs.
Deputy Energy Secretary Kyle McSlarrow announced that the department will begin using a product known as I-Manage to integrate systems for cost accounting, travel, payroll, budget formulation and execution, procurement, human resources, facilities and research, and development portfolios.
Officials said the new program will help lower costs for tech products by reducing the need for multiple, independent systems to manage various operations.
"This program will streamline the way the Department of Energy operates," McSlarrow said in a statement. "Each manager will have access to all the data in their areas of responsibility and turn to this Web-based system to get current information on their budgets, on people procurement, projects, performance and spending."
