Labor Department unveils e-gov projects
Labor Secretary Elaine Chao on Wednesday detailed e-government projects aimed at making her department more citizen-centric.
At a ceremony where she electronically signed the department's e-government strategic plan, Chao explained that the initiative is a roadmap for transforming Labor into a digital department.
The strategic plan is centered around four areas-management of customer relationships, organization capabilities, technology architecture and security/privacy-that Labor's e-government team will focus on as it implements online services and technology consolidation within the department.
Among other things, Labor aims to integrate e-mail and other technology systems so they are consistent within the department and capable of communicating with other federal agencies.
"Our strategic plan and e-government team are both designed to inject accountability and produce results for ... the American people," said Patrick Pizzella, the department's chief information officer.
