Both the House and the Senate gave approval Tuesday to legislation that would amend the Freedom of Information Act to provide for public access to information in an electronic format. The House approved the bill 402-0 and the Senate later followed by unanimous consent.
In addition to subjecting agencies' electronic records to FOIA requirements, the amendment requires that if requesters ask for information in electronic form, agencies must provide it that way if they can.
