Play of the Day: The Deep State Failed to Take Down Trump
Perhaps the conspiracy isn't as competent as its backers think it is.
The Special Counsel's investigation into President Donald Trump concluded with delivery of the report to the Justice Department over the weekend and Attorney General William Barr wrote a four-page letter summarizing the report. In it, Barr wrote that Trump was not found to be have definitely colluded with Russia and that Robert Mueller could not find evidence "sufficient to establish" that the Trump campaign obstructed justice. Late Show's James Corden joked about the news, saying it busted his bracket and that he had Trump going "all the way to impeachment."
Later that weekend, Trump was seen in a photo posted by Kid Rock -- wearing American flag pants -- at a golf course, prompting Jimmy Kimmel to say "those are the kind of pants you wear to be shot out of a cannon," while The Daily Show's Trevor Noah joked that golfing with Kid Rock should be punishment for something. Late Show's Stephen Colbert noted that the allegations of a deep state conspiracy against Trump are now easily disproven, asking "what kind of incompetent illuminati do they have working at the deep state?"
