President Trump is taking on the Chinese economy.
Former Pentagon chief Robert Gates was asked over thee weekend if former Vice President Joe Biden would be a good commander-in-chief and Gates paused for several seconds before saying "I don't know." Late Night's Seth Meyers joked about the interview, saying if you proposed to your girlfriend "and she paused for several seconds and then said 'I don't know,' you would not start booking a DJ.'"
President Donald Trump's trade war with China is escalating, as China this week said that it would tax American goods coming into China after Trump said he would tax Chinese goods coming into the U.S. Late Late Show's James Corden joked about the news, saying that Trump would get a note from his doctor to get out of the war, while Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that Trump's economic prowess may be lacking, considering the tax story from last week. A Chinese official wrote "no one should expect China to swallow bitter fruit that harms its core interests" about the tariffs, prompting The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that Trump said "I believe the word is 'vegetable,'" white Colbert also joked about some of the goods that could get taxed.
