Retraction: Pay and Benefits Watch, May 12, 2005
The "Pay and Benefits Watch" column of May 12 erroneously reported that the Office of Inspector General at the Justice Department was not providing the required benefit of compensatory time off for travel to its employees.
The column, relying on information provided by an OIG employee, said the organization had not taken steps to implement regulations providing the benefit, and had not told employees to keep records of their travel to ensure future compensation.
In fact, the OIG office issued guidance to employees in February, saying that Justice had issued an interim policy on the benefit and that additional information would be forthcoming. The guidance specifically said employees should keep track of compensatory travel time earned so that such time could be claimed when guidelines were clarified.
Government Executive regrets the errors. The column has been deleted from our database, because it did not meet our standards for reporting.
