5 Things Women Job Seekers Want
Women want better pay and work-life balance but also value working in diverse organizations, among other factors, a new Gallup poll reveals.
It takes more than competitive pay to hire talented women, according to a report by Gallup.
To entice this talent pool, organizations must first understand the most important factors women look for in a new job and then create opportunities that meet their needs, the report says.
What Women Want
Gallup asked around 13,000 U.S. employees what they valued in a job. Of the 16 factors analyzed, pay and well-being were the two most important for all potential candidates. But women placed more value on other factors than men did.
The five most important factors for women are:
- More work-life balance and better personal well-being (66%).
- Higher income or better benefits package (65%).
- Opportunity for creative freedom (62%).
- More stability and job security (54%).
- A diverse organization (52%).
The most significant difference between what men and women consider important is the value an organization puts on diversity and inclusivity, the report says. In fact, one in two women said those things are very important compared with three in 10 men. If an organization is looking to hire and retain women, prioritizing DEI is key, according to Gallup.
Additionally, work-life balance is just as important to women as an increase in income or benefits, the report says.
On average, women in the U.S. earn less than men, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of Census Bureau data. In fact, women under age 30 who work full time, year-round earn about 93 cents on the dollar compared with men in the same age range.
